In the 1950′s when I first became a member at the Gabba, the cricket test umpires, commentators and members all had lunch together in the members dining room.
When the West Indies played a cricket test at the Gabba , Ramadin and Valentine, the two spinners were bowling, new ball was due, Warrell the Captain took the new ball and threw it to one of the spinners who rubbed in on the pitch, ruffed it up a bit and continued bowling.
Another time when West Indies played at the Gabba, Wes Hall bowled a short rising ball to McDonald our opening batsman hitting him up in the rib cage, Hall went and sat down off the pitch and some of the fielders stood around him, Wes Hall went up and decided to lie down in the shade of the fielders.
