As a member of the BCG Trust for a period of 53 years, I write to describe the most memorable event I witnessed during my membership. It occurred during the last day of the West Indies – Australia test match on Wednesday 14th December 1960. I was situated in the old wooden members stand, which was positioned, if I remember correctly, approximately where the current cricketers club is situated. During the afternoon’s play, it became evident to me, that the game could end up with a closer result than most people expected. Three Australians were dismissed in the last over of this match vainly trying to score the winning runs. As it turned out Meckiff was run out on the last ball of the over, and a tie was the result. I believe that Clive Harberg, 4QR’s national broadcaster, was not certain of the result, and the members around me could hardly believe their eyes. The whole of the Gabba including the excited members rose in absolute uproar, this provided me with my most memorable moment during my membership.
